ki tours, winter hiking or tobogganing? Located in the heart of the Valley of Alpine Meadows, the town of Grossarl isn’t just home to the GROSSARLER HOF, it is also the ideal base for active winter sports fans and nature lovers looking for holiday delights away from the large skiing centres. The majestic scenery surrounding the hotel ensures breathtaking views from every window. In winter, the ‘Valley of Alpine Meadows’ becomes the ‘Valley of Ski Tours’ with perfect conditions, well-maintained winter walking trails, and a stunning setting for snowshoeing and magnificent Alpine hikes.
Snowshoeing is such incredible fun! There aren’t many forms of exercise that allow you to get this close to the gloriously pristine winter landscape. Snowy trees, rocks transformed into strange shapes by snow drifts and, with a little luck, you may even spot a deer, a chamois or a few stags on your winter holiday. Beyond the tree line, a seemingly endless panorama awaits with countless peaks in the Upper and Lower Tauern.
The well-maintained winter walking trails in the valley, which run parallel to the cross-country ski runs, and the access roads up to the high-lying farms are ideally suited to long walks. Take a toboggan along with you and enjoy a glorious ride back into the valley. A total of 35km of well-maintained winter walking trails await you in Grossarl and Hüttschlag.
A superb toboggan run is situated in Ellmau/Grossarl. The natural run is around 3km long, fast-paced, exciting, adventure-packed, but family-friendly too. What makes this unique natural run so special is getting up close with the magic of Grossarl’s Alpine scenery as you descend.
The picture-perfect idyll of the Grossarl Valley is a true insiders’ tip for ski touring thanks to glorious mountain panoramas and beautiful valley runs. There are well-signed ski tours here to suit all ability levels. We will be delighted to provide you with further information about the best spots and tours.
At around 25 km in length, most of the marked cross-country ski runs in Grossarl and Hüttschlag have separate classic and skating tracks. If snowfall is less than abundant, there is a solution not far from the GROSSARLER HOF: at two hectares, the ‘Reitwiese’ cross-country run is covered in artificial snow and offers scenic circular routes as well as being the ideal training area for beginners, experts and the next generation of cross-country skiers.
Comfort, nostalgia and pure romance – that is what you can expect from a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh. Wrapped in warm blankets, you’ll glide through the picturesque landscape and enjoy the magic of the unique mountain scenery, the soft sounds of the runners gliding through the crisp snow, the horses’ snorts and the whispered commands of the carriage driver.
