Their main function used to be as border and orientation points, and they only began to have a religious significance in the 17th century. ‘Weather crosses’ were often erected on high ground and on passes to protect against bad weather. You may also find a casket with a ‘summit book’ on many peaks. These are like visitors’ books for the mountains, and contain many stories of joy as well as accounts of disasters and fatalities.
After your mountain hike, the GROSSARLER HOF bids you to relax and unwind in the Erlenreich Relax & SPA’s soothing atmosphere and be transported into the presence of the alder. The SPA’s close proximity to these mystical trees is soothing to body and spirit.
