The most beautiful peaks in the Grossarl Valley

The most beautiful peaks in the Grossarl Valley

At 920m above sea level, the GROSSARLER HOF hotel in Grossarl near Salzburg offers an ideal base for mountaineers. The hotel is the perfect starting point for challenging circular walks and mountain hikes to the Grossarl Valley’s seven most spectacular peaks.

Climbing to the summits is an unrivalled challenge for fit hikers and mountaineers, and promises a backpack full of memories. The company of experienced hiking guides means an added level of safety.

The Grossarl Valley’s seven most beautiful peaks are: Keeskogel (2,884m) Weinschnabel (2,750m), Glingspitze (2,433m), Frauenkogel (2,424m), Draugstein (2,358m), Höllwand (2,287m) and Saukarkopf (2,048m – via ferrata route).

By the way, summit crosses have been erected in the Alps since the 13th century. Their main function used to be as border and orientation points, and they only began to have a religious significance in the 17th century. ‘Weather crosses’ were often erected on high ground and on passes to protect against bad weather. You may also find a casket with a ‘summit book’ on many peaks. These are like visitors’ books for the mountains, and contain many stories of joy as well as accounts of disasters and fatalities.

After your mountain hike, the GROSSARLER HOF bids you to relax and unwind in the Erlenreich Relax & SPA’s soothing atmosphere and be transported into the presence of the alder. The SPA’s close proximity to these mystical trees is soothing to body and spirit.

Fortify yourself with Head Chef Walter Viehhauser’s regional specialities: our Alpine culinary delights are served either in the rustic yet elegant restaurant or at the à la carte Jagastub’n. The world of culinary enjoyment is rounded off by our superbly assorted cellar – the wines are predominantly Austrian, complemented by rare vintages from around the world.
