Salzburg event: cycle race to the Mooslehenalm
rossarl’s Mooslehen Challenge is taking place on 20 August 2017. The cycle race in the Salzburger Land is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
Cycling is one of the most popular pastimes in Austria, and the Grossarl Valley in Salzburg offers the perfect stage for the sport. The Valley of Alpine Meadows in the Salzburg region boasts a 140km network of clearly signposted mountain bike trails.
Race your bike to our Alpine lodge
The Mooslehenalm is one of the most popular mountain biking destinations thanks to the exceptional panoramic view of the Grossarl Valley that awaits at the top of an arduous uphill ride. It’s a particularly lovely spot to linger whilst enjoying tasty treats from the Alpine kitchen.
This will be the Mooslehen Challenge’s fifth year. Last year the organisers – Florian Ganitzer, Bernhard Gollegger and Markus Andexer, the GROSSARLER HOF’s Managing Director – were delighted to welcome over a hundred participants. If the weather stays fine, they expect similar numbers this year.
The cycle race traditionally sets off from Grossarl’s village centre with the mass start at the marketplace at 11am. E-bikers start at the Schied access road. To reach the Mooslehenalm, there is an elevation gain of 600m to conquer over a distance of 9.2km. ‘As usual, the cycle race is open to anyone who enjoys cycling’, says Markus Andexer. The passionate cyclist has planned a special challenge for guests who’ve booked to stay at the GROSSARLER HOF over this weekend on the GROSSARLER HOF’S BIKE DAYS package: ‘Beat me and wins two free nights!’
But a quick finish isn’t the only way for participants to win. The organisers have also put together a grand raffle with more excellent prizes. Top prize: a Suunto Spartan Sport GPS watch worth €550, two pairs of Salomon trekking shoes and a two-night stay for two at the 4-star superior active hotel, the GROSSARLER HOF.
This year’s classifications are as follows:
- Female mountain bikers (under 40 and 40+)
- Male mountain bikers (18-50 and 50+)
- Young male mountain bikers (under 18)
- E-bikers general (only standard e-bikes permitted)
- Teams of 3 (mixed-gender teams allowed)
